Beanitos Bean Chips

Posted on Monday, June 14th, 2010

beanitosIn a quest to stay healthy and still enjoy the food I eat, Beanitos is a breath of fresh air. When looking for a crunchy snack, it’s easy to grab a bag of potato chips (filled with grease) or tortilla chips (made with overly processed corn). With Beanitos, you benefit from a tasty snack chip without the repercussions associated with junk food.

For starters, you receive 5 grams of fiber by eating just 10 Beanitos Bean Chips. You’ll also benefit from Omega-3 essential fatty acids, which promotes a healthy heart and blood pressure levels. By exchanging your regular chip with Beanitos, you can also avoid the kinds of ingredients that contribute to weight gain.

The Taste

I’ve sampled other bean chips before, but I’ve found them awfully salty. Beanitos are lightly dusted with sea salt, which goes well with the distinct bean taste. The chips are also versatile and accommodate many different sauces and dips. I’ve mostly been eating them straight out of the bag, but have also tried them with salsa, cheese dip, and a Spicy Chili Thai sauce.

My father, who is a diabetic and does not like black beans, took a clear liking to Beanitos. Not only was he excited to sample the chips with various dips, but also tried to swipe my entire supply. After scrutinizing the bag, my mother commented that the chips are extremely healthy and a ‘pleasant way to get protein and fiber.’

Pass No Gas

A lot of people avoid eating beans because of the gassy results they tend to produce. However, Bean Brand Foods uses a natural method to eliminate the common side effects often associated with eating beans or bean-based foods.

The Health Factor

beanitoschipsI don’t know about you, but when I can see healthy ingredients in my food – I get excited. Natural ingredients are used to make Beanitos and they are visible in every chip. Whole beans (either black or pinto) are combined with whole grain rice or whole brown flaxseed to create a snack chip with a high health factor. One serving of Beanitos is:

  • Corn-free
  • Gluten-free
  • High in fiber
  • Packed with 4 grams of protein
  • Packed with Omega 3s
  • Low glycemic

Who Makes Beanitos?

Doug and Dave Foreman, creators of the original Guiltless Gourmet brand, are behind the pioneering all-natural food products of Bean Brand Foods. In the past, the Foremans have worked to create the first-ever fat free bean dips, and salsa with no water added. In the future, look for Beanitos to offer a range of flavors, including an all-natural cheese…and I cannot wait! If you’d like to know when new Beanitos products are coming out and possibly get a chance to sample products before they are released to the public, you should consider becoming a Beanhead.

K, I think they should experiment with a ‘hot and spicy’ flavored chip, but it will be interesting to see what other flavors they come up with. If I hear about any new ones, I will post. You can also sign up to become a “Beanhead” and then you’ll know just as soon as I do!
