Genesis Today Dark Chocolate Acai Pudding

Posted on Thursday, July 8th, 2010

genesistodaypuddingThe Dark Chocolate Acai Pudding by Genesis Today has been calling my name at Walmart for weeks and I’ve finally purchased a 4-pack because it went on sale. The packaging reminds me of a medical product, but it promises a boatload of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, calcium, protein, amino acids, and fiber. Its official description is “All-Natural Dark Chocolate Pudding with Acai Berries, Vitamins & Minerals.”

When I first opened the pudding cup, I noticed water (?) had formed on the top of it and all around. There was no creaminess and it possessed a chunky, congealed consistency. I tried to stir the heck out of it to make it smoother, but it never reached a smoothness that made me happy. It was almost like pudding that had been boiled to the point that it forms those lumpy globs.

Despite the wateriness and consistency turning me off, I still decided to taste it. There was a distinctly strong cocoa flavor – almost woody or earthy. It is made with real cacao beans so maybe that’s where the taste came from…or perhaps this is what acai tastes like? At any rate, I’m not impressed with the taste or consistency of the pudding. Such a shame – it claims to promote weight loss, boost energy levels, as well as healthy hair, skin, and nails.

    Hi Yona,

First of all, I want to thank you for trying out our Acai Dark Chocolate Pudding. Secondly, thanks so much for your feedback. We truly value all feedback, as it helps us perfect our products. I’m so sorry to hear that you were displeased with the pudding. However, we do have a line of fruit juices that are fantastic and just as healthy as the pudding. If you would like to try some, please e-mail me and I’ll be thrilled to send you some complimentary juice coupons.

Take care and have a great weekend!

I agree with this blogger’s comments on the pudding. When I opened it up, I saw the water on top. No matter how you chop it, stir it, mix it…it stays a funky, gelatinous/eggy consistency. In addition, I bit into fine granules/flakes that I thought were crunchy sugar or over cooked pudding. Then I realized it’s probably the acai. There just seemed to be something “off” about the whole experience. So much so, it made me check the lid twice for the expiration date as I thought perhaps it had gone bad.

I was given the pudding by my mother who bought it this week, but she didn’t like the flavor. I didn’t think anything of that, considering my mother doesn’t normally like dark chocolate. I’m just the opposite. I love the deep, bitter taste of dark chocolate and I drink acai juice on occasion so where could I go wrong?? After a couple of spoonfuls, I threw it away because I didn’t want to risk becoming ill from it and decided to google it to see if anyone else had the same experience. Lo and behold, I found this blog.

I think perhaps I might use the other cups in a blender with some fruit. I’m sure they are very good for you…they just aren’t that palatable.

I completely agree lol! I too did a google search cause I thought it was a spoiled batch. After the reassurance from this site I decided to give it another go and the taste was just not my cup of tea, I will be sticking with the jello pudding cups.

I have to agree. We feed run a soup kitchen for our church and received several cases of your pudding through our local food bank. We were excited to get what I thought was pudding. We gave it to the kids who thought it was strange and tasted bitter. I then took it and gave it to some of our homeless friends who would not eat it as well. I appreciate the healthy benefits of the pudding, and the fact that it was given to us to use in our program, so for that, thank you. I think it just need to be a little less bitter and more people would enjoy it.
