I truly watched the Super Bowl this year to see the commercials. One thing I can say – Budweiser spent a great deal of money on ads. But for me, the dogs did it for me. My absolute favorite featured a Great Dane who understands the value of a good bribe. That commercial was too funny.

Secondly, the overweight pooch who is inspired by the Volkswagen to shed extra pounds – so creative and heartfelt. How cute is it when he’s staring at himself in the mirror? Doritos really shined for me with their granny using the lil’ baby to snag the coveted chips from his bratty brother. Too cute.

My Biggest Blogging Goal

I have small goals to post more frequently and learn HTML code to improve the appearance of my blog. However, my biggest goal is – although I’m not much of a social butterfly – I’d love to break out of my shell and attend a conference for bloggers.

I want to mingle with other bloggers, while promoting my site at the same time. I’d like to speak face-to-face with businesses and organizations. One of the most appealing aspects of attending a blogging conference is to learn. They have guest speakers, panels, and tons of networking opportunities. I’d also like to meet some of the bloggers that I have connected with online – how cool would it be to hear the voices and mingle with the minds behind the online personalities?

The only conference or mingling event that I’ve attended was a LOHAS Eve of Sustainability event in New York City. I was actually invited by a company that I wrote an article about. There, I was introduced to a wide range of green products and services. It was a lovely experience, but I felt like a fish out of water. In unfamiliar settings, I’m like a block of ice that thaws out when I start to feel more comfortable. Hopefully, I can work on this in the near future.

I am a huge fan of the 1985 version of ‘Fright Night’ about a teenage boy who learns he is living next door to a vampire. Chris Sarandon played the seductive vampire and Charlie was played by… I have no clue (just kidding). He was played by William Ragsdale, but I had to look that up. I loved the old version of the movie. When I heard there was a remake of ‘Fright Night’ with Colin Farrell – I was ready for something good because Mr. Farrell rarely makes a bad movie….but sigh…this movie was a big disappointment for me. I’m embarrassed to have told everyone “I can’t wait to see the new Fright Night.”

The Lows

• For starters, this movie was extremely campy and ridiculously slapstick in some parts. You’d think Mr. Farrell would have made a sexy vampire, but I just wasn’t buying it.
• The makeup job on Colin Farrell was overkill – he didn’t look like a member of the undead…he looked like he had a fight with a container of baby powder. Plus, I did not see the point in using distorted demon, computer-animated special effects for some of the vampire transformations. Farrell would have looked much better as a regular ol’ vampire (a la True Blood style).
• For me, Anton Yeltzin was a distraction. All I kept thinking of when I saw him was his young character in ‘Hearts in Atlantis.’

The Highs

• For me, Christopher Mintz-Plasse really made the movie, (McLovin from ‘Superbad’). He provided much-needed comic relief.
• Toni Collette (from ‘United States of Tara’) looks really good in this movie – she’s aging well.
• There is a guest appearance from an actor from the original film, which was an amusing surprise.

Schools are constantly calling parents to alert them about the good, the bad, and the unpleasantness of their kids. Common calls tackle issues such as bullying and failing grades, but I bet my brother never thought he’d be getting a phone call from my 6-year-old nephew’s teacher about…

My brother sends my nephew off to school with a dollar bill so that he can purchase a snack during lunch. He might get an ice cream that costs around 55 cents. Anyhow, my brother got a call from the school the other day. Apparently, after my nephew purchases his snack, he’s been tossing the change into the garbage. Finally, a lunch lady figured out what he was doing and decided that my brother should be alerted to this lil’ ritual.

When my brother asked my nephew, ‘why did you throw out the money’, he answered, ‘uh, I didn’t want it.’ So basically, after the dollar had served its purpose (getting his snack), he saw no use in keeping the change.

No. Concept. Of. Money. Whatsoever.

Just wait until he gets older…

This week, I went to New York City because my sweetie was exploring a few business opportunities. While I was there, I met a lot of different inspirational people. They all had something in common – they were making something out of nothing, working their way up from the bottom to the top, or simply seizing any opportunity that came their way.

• I met a woman who was a lead seller for Estee Lauder Cosmetics and studied under Bobbi Brown as a makeup artist. She now owns her own cosmetics line and shop in Brooklyn, as well as teaches classes. As I was surrounded by a rainbow of eye shadows, I felt inspired to put more energy into my lifelong passions to create a career that makes me happiest.
• I met several people in the real estate field, piling into a dungeon classroom to take classes to get their real estate license and learn how to motivate others to lease apartments in New York. It inspired me to work harder to get the things I want out of life. I’m truly slacking in this department.
• One man worked his way out of a halfway house /shelter by seizing an opportunity in MLM (multi-level marketing). That was inspiring in itself.

New York City is an inspirational place, period. One of the last things I saw as we drove home (a little over 4 hours away) was the Statue of Liberty. For some reason, she literally takes my breath away and sends me into a cloud of contemplation.

I had always been under the impression that clear urine signified good health, but apparently – the normal color is actually a pale yellow. In exploring this fleeting curiosity, I learned that the human body can produce a rainbow of colors.

Many times, the color of your urine is an indicator of your health, while other shades are linked to things you have drank or eaten.

Below you will learn what the different colors of your urine could mean:

Clear Urine

Clear urine is an indication that you’ve been drinking an excess of water or other diuretic-like drinks, like coffee and beer. It will have little to no color, and is nothing to worry about when it happens on occasion.

Reddish Urine

Usually, red-colored urine is one of the most feared colors. There are a handful of reasons why you have red urine. Medical reasons center on a small amount of blood in the urine giving it a red tint. A bladder infection, kidney stones or bladder stones can cause urine to turn red. Also…

• Suffering a slight injury to the bladder or kidney can result in blood in the urine.
• Professional boxers may pass blood in their urine after a fight.
• Menstruating women will see reddish-colored blood before, during and after their period.
• There are foods that can turn your blood a reddish color, such as beets (reddish-purple), blackberries (red), rhubarb (reddish), and candy or pills that are made with a dye.
• Poisons that you have ingested (such as lead or mercury) can turn urine a reddish color.

Orange Urine

If you love carrots (especially carrot juice) or have too much vitamin C in your system, you may see the color orange in your urine.

Yellow Urine

A deeper shade of yellow urine means you need to drink more liquids and can happen when you’ve been sweating excessively.

Dark Yellow Urine

When you are consistently producing a dark yellow urine, it could be an indication of liver problems or jaundice, but some people might not be drinking enough fluids. Increase your intake of water to see what happens before panicking.

Blue Urine

Yes, your urine can have a bluish tint to it…if you have a psuedomonas bacterial infection. It can also be an indication that you have high levels of calcium in your body.

Greenish Urine

A urinary tract infection, bile problems and certain medications can turn your urine to a greenish color. When the urine is a brighter green color, it means you have an excess of B vitamins in your system.

Brown Urine

Serious conditions are usually associated with brown urine, and can involve ailments, such as liver disease, hepatitis, melanoma cancer, or copper poisoning. However, recently eating fava beans or taking a laxative can also turn your urine brown.
