Lean Cuisine: Butternut Squash Ravioli
Posted on Monday, August 2nd, 2010
Lean Cuisine: Butternut Squash Ravioli claims to offer a blend of “sweet butternut squash, crunchy walnuts, and colorful veggies,” such as snaps peas and carrots. I love dishes that include nuts, so I’m looking forward to seeing what this option from the Spa Cuisine line has to offer.
You cook the frozen meal for 3 minutes in the microwave before removing the cover to stir the ravioli and coat with the sauce. At first glance, the meal does not look appetizing and there seems to be a skimpy amount of sauce, which looks pretty watery. There are single peas rolling around in the container and visually, it doesn’t go with the rest of the meal. I wish they would have just stuck with the snap peas and that’s it.
The Taste
The snap peas are sweet and flavorful. There were five raviolis in the dish, which I can’t really make out if I really like or not. As for the crunchy walnuts, there were literally three hidden in the mass of vegetables – I would have preferred to incorporate that flavor more. The ravioli pasta itself is satisfying, but there’s a gradual weirdness as you experience the center. The sauce is on the watery side and basic – nothing special about it. Overall, I find this a passable dish.
As a side note, you cannot deny the nutritional value of Lean Cuisine: Butternut Squash Ravioli. There is an incredible amount of Vitamin A contained in this frozen entrée – along with a decent daily value of fiber and potassium.
Most often, Spa Cuisine dishes do not disappoint, but in this case, I’m not impressed with the Butternut Squash Ravioli.
