My Garden Swap Goodies
Posted on Thursday, May 6th, 2010
I’ve never participated in a swap of any kind online (or offline now that I think about it), so when I encountered the Garden Swap hosted by Julie at Engine 3. I jumped at the chance to join. We filled out questionnaires that stated our likes, dislikes, and needs. This will be the first time I attempt a garden, so anything that I receive will be most appreciated.
My Garden Swap partner was Aggie from The Loca Loba. I’m from the snowy cold zone of Upstate New York and she’s from the hot state of Texas, so I knew this would be interesting. Aggie has acres of land with pecan trees, orange trees, fig trees, and a grapefruit tree – just to name a few things. I had no idea what to get that would actually grow in the heat of Texas…or be of use to the gardener that seems to have it all.
When I asked for help finding seeds that would grow in her climate/zone, the employee at the garden store actually spent one summer in Texas. He told me tomatoes and peppers do well in Texas…and the rest I improvised on, including a pack of seeds for some really odd-looking cucumbers.
For starters, I absolutely love the book – The Vegetable Gardener’s BIBLE by Edward C. Smith because I am a visual person when it comes to doing anything.
I really like fresh herbs so Aggie sent me an arsenal of seeds, including chives, dill, parsley, rosemary, oregano, cilantro, sage, lemon basil, and sweet basil.
I also received a pair of gardening gloves (love the color), a really cute garden stake, transplanter and trowel, which I used this morning to fill my birdfeeders.
Thank you so much, Aggie and thank you Julie for hosting the Garden Swap!

I am so glad you had a great time. When I paired up everyone I tried to get everyone for different places just for a challenge and also to learn something new.
I love all your goodies and the book, now that was awesome.
Good luck on your first garden. You are going to truly enjoy it.
Take care Yona and thank you again for joining my swap. Have a great evening. God Bless!
.-= Julie´s last blog ..A project, finally!!! =-.
I’m glad you liked everything. Good luck on your garden.
I would love to have a garden. How has yours been doing? Do you have one this year too?
Well…last year…the only thing that really flourished was my jalapeno peppers. We got invaded by deer and groundhogs. This year, could not plant because my parent’s had a house fire and the house is getting rebuilt
I am really looking forward to building a deer-proof garden next year! I have thought about trying out container gardening…
