Truvia Natural Sweetener Review
Posted on Sunday, January 31st, 2010
Thank you As They Grow Up for hosting the giveaway that allowed me to sample Truvia – the natural sweetener made from the stevia plant, which happened to come in a nifty green and beige bag with a pair of gardening gloves.
Upon opening my first packet of Truvia, I couldn’t resist a quick sniff. It actually smells sweet and unlike other sugar substitutes with a powdery consistency – Truvia is granulated like regular sugar. A quick taste test on the tip of my tongue passed with flying colors. With about 16 ounces of black coffee in hand, I added my non-dairy creamer and two packets of Truvia (the equivalent of four teaspoons of regular sugar).
The first sip actually produced that ‘ahhhh‘ feeling you get when you’ve discovered a hidden treasure at the grocery store. I’m excited because as a natural sugar with 0 calories – I can quiet the little voice in the back of my mind that whispers ‘carcinogens‘ whenever I use an artificial sweetener.
Shortly after sampling Truvia, I read a review where the reviewer noted a chemical aftertaste. I did not detect this. To me, Truvia definitely separates itself in the taste department from leading low-calorie sweeteners on the market.
My Final Thoughts
Truvia costs around $3.69 for a box that contains 40 packets of sweetener. While I usually opt for generic brands of everything, if something tastes good and helps me accomplish my personal goals – I will spend a little extra for it.

Well, it’s good you found a product that tastes good to you! You might want to know it’s over 99% erythritol and is 9/10 of 1% Rebiana and masking agent. Rebiana is not naturally in the stevia leaf, but is a chemical derivative of stevia glycosides….but if you still prefer it, because you like the taste,…cool! (I use SweetLeaf brand).
Thank you for your comment. I’m open to trying new things and will look up Sweetleaf next.
